Theresa Rothkeppel has received the prestigious Tom Morris Scholarship from St Leonards School in St Andrews, Scotland, the first female pupil ever to do so.

After completing the International Baccalaureate Diploma at St Leonards last year, Theresa has returned to the school on its new post graduate programme, combining further studies with her golfing ambitions.

Introduced in 2017, the Tom Morris Scholarship celebrates excellence within the school’s Golf Academy, delivered in partnership with St Andrews Links Trust. Named after Old Tom Morris, the award recognises outstanding commitment to golf and is highly regarded in university and college scholarship applications worldwide.

Originally from Germany, Theresa is ranked first in the North Rhine-Westphalia U18 State Ranking and won the Junior Golf Masters Germany in July 2025.

She was presented with the award on 28 October, by Sheila Walker, great-great-granddaughter of Old Tom Morris and patron of the scholarship, alongside Simon Brian, Head of St Leonards School, and Fintan Bonner, Director of Golf.

Mr Bonner said: “Theresa joined St Leonards in Year 12 and has made exceptional progress, both as a student and as a golfer. She has been an outstanding member of the school golf team, contributing with commitment, character and consistently impressive performances.

“What makes Theresa’s journey particularly compelling is that it demonstrates the value of an individualised pathway, investing fully in her education and dedicating focused time to elevating her golf.”

Theresa herself added: “Receiving this scholarship really means a lot to me, and being the first female player to be awarded it makes it even more special.”

St Leonards is a boarding and day school in St Andrews, Scotland, for pupils aged from four to 18.
