Boarding at Sidcot School offers students far more than a place to live during term time. Through a wide range of activities, events and shared experiences, students are encouraged to explore new interests, build friendships and make the most of every day outside the classroom.
This summer term was packed with opportunities for boarders to get involved. One of the standout moments was Activities Week, when Years 7 and 8 stepped away from their usual routines to take part in a diverse programme of experiences. Students tackled camping challenges, orienteering and team games, explored Bristol’s maritime history, visited Shepton Mallet Prison and stepped back in time through a living history experience. Whether working together to solve challenges or discovering somewhere new, the week gave students the chance to learn in a different way while creating lasting memories with friends.
The Summer Term also brought a fresh range of opportunities through Sidcot’s Programme of Activities for Sidcot Students (PASS). Running throughout the year, PASS encourages students to try activities they may never have considered before. This term, students could be found kayaking, horse riding, bouldering, cycling, playing tennis and trying their hand at archery. Others chose to explore engineering, drama and Japanese culture, demonstrating the breadth of opportunities available beyond the classroom.
The sense of community that sits at the heart of boarding life was also evident throughout the term’s celebrations. Sports Day saw students supporting one another as they competed to break personal bests and school records (despite the heatwave!), while the annual Garden Party brought students, families and the wider community together for an afternoon of entertainment and celebration. Student-run stalls showcased creativity and entrepreneurship while helping to raise money for future projects.
As the Summer Term came to an end, students across the school had the chance to celebrate important milestones. After months of hard work, Year 11 students marked the end of their GCSE examinations with a leavers’ barbecue and the traditional t-shirt signing, reflecting on their achievements and sharing memories with friends. Year 13 students then marked the end of their Sidcot journey with their Leavers’ Graduation and the Sixth Form Ball, recognising their accomplishments and enjoying a well-earned opportunity to celebrate together before moving on to their next adventures.
