Music at More House is not just a subject; it is a vibrant force that unites the school community, fuels creativity, and inspires excellence. Pupils are encouraged to get involved from the moment they arrive, with plenty of chances to learn an instrument, rehearse with others and discover what they’re capable of. A standout example is the school’s unique Junior Band initiative. Upon joining, every pupil in Years 4–6 is given an instrument and a place in the band, whether they are complete beginners or already on their musical journey. Many discover a natural talent and become inspiring and creative musicians.
Performance is central to the school’s ethos. Pupils regularly take part in recitals, showcases and large‑scale events, offering audiences an exciting mix of instrumental and vocal performances. A highlight of the winter term is the annual Christmas by Candlelight concert. The December 2025 event brought together more than 60 pupils for an evening of music and drama. From festive carols and engaging readings to lively ensemble performances and beautiful solos, this concert celebrated the talent nurtured within the Performing Arts departments.
Each year, such events show how much pupils gain from the variety of musical opportunities available to them at More House School. The confidence to perform, the dedication and commitment to practising, and the enjoyment of creating something together all shine through on stage. They are a warm reminder of how music helps pupils grow in so many ways, and why it remains such an important part of school life.
“Music was a huge part of my life at More House, I really enjoyed performing as part of the Concert Band and Jazz Band at events both at school and outside the school. This continues to be an important part of my life…” (More House Alumni)
